Gate Fuels Inc. is a research start-up firm based in Blacksburg, VA, with the goal of developing microbial and cell-free platform technologies that enable low-cost production of biochemicals and biofuels. The first platform is based on industrially-safe Bacillus subtilis. This microbe has the capacity to convert cellulosic biomass directly to value-added biofuels and biochemicals in a single step, called consolidated bioprocessing (CBP). The second platform is the synthetic enzymatic pathway biotransformation (SyPaB), a cell-free system that converts carbohydrates to hydrogen or electricity directly, with 100% efficiency.
The co-founders of GateFuels Inc. have worked on Bacillus subtilis and CBP for more than 25 years (combined experience); Gate Fuels is a pioneer in the development of cell-free systems for industrial biocommodity production.
